About our live seafood
Live seafood delivers unmatched freshness — the flavour and texture of a shellfish cooked within minutes of coming out of the tank simply cannot be beaten. Tasman Star stocks live Queensland Mud Crab, live Southern Rock Lobster, live Blue Swimmer and live oysters in the shell, all held in temperature-controlled seawater tanks at our Gold Coast facility. Availability is seasonal and tank capacity is limited, so live orders are strictly pre-order. Call or order online before 11am the day prior to delivery. Ideal for Chinese banquet-style cooking, traditional clam bakes, or the ultimate seafood platter. Lunar New Year and 10-course Chinese banquet tables across Southport, Robina and Surfers Paradise are where live seafood really shines — a live mud crab steamed Cantonese-style with ginger and shallot, or a live lobster flash-poached and served with butter sauce, is the moment a family meal becomes a celebration.
Storage
Cook live seafood on the day of delivery. If necessary, keep crustaceans cool and damp in the fridge (not on ice, which can kill them) for up to 6 hours.
Serving
For live mud crab, the humane method is chilling in the freezer for 20 minutes to sedate before cooking. Steam or boil in seasoned water for 12 minutes per kg.

Is live seafood always available?
No — stock depends on season and tank capacity. We recommend calling 24–48 hours ahead to confirm availability.
Will live crabs arrive alive?
Yes. Our live delivery process is temperature and humidity-controlled. In the rare event a crustacean does not survive transit, we replace or refund.
What areas do you deliver live seafood to?
Gold Coast and Northern Rivers, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Outside these days, we offer pickup from our Gold Coast facility.
How do I humanely kill a live crab?
Place in the freezer for 20 minutes to induce torpor, then cook immediately. This is the RSPCA-recommended method.
How far ahead should I pre-order live seafood for Lunar New Year or a Chinese banquet?
For Lunar New Year Eve and Lunar New Year Day we recommend pre-ordering live mud crab and live lobster at least 10–14 days ahead. Tank capacity is strictly limited and Chinese families across Southport, Robina and Surfers Paradise book the same weekend hard. For a standard 8–10 person banquet, order 2 × 1kg mud crabs plus 1 × medium rock lobster as the centrepiece, and pair with whole steamed snapper or barramundi for prosperity.
Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?
Yes — we deliver fresh seafood across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Order before 2pm the day prior to delivery.
How is the seafood packed for delivery?
All orders are packed in insulated cooler bags with frozen gel packs. Chilled items travel at 0–4°C; frozen items arrive at –18°C or colder.
Can I pickup my order instead of delivery?
Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and collect from our Gold Coast facility during business hours.
Are your seafood products Australian?
Wherever possible, yes. Every product clearly labels its country of origin. We prioritise Australian-sourced seafood from Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian fisheries.
