Raw (green) prawns are the foundation of every great seafood cook. Tasman Star green prawns arrive head-on, shell-on, snap-frozen at sea to preserve the firm texture and sweet flavour chefs look for. Use them for Mediterranean garlic prawns, Thai curries, a Gold Coast barbeque, Japanese tempura or a simple grill over charcoal. We stock Banana, Tiger and Eastern King prawns in graded sizes. All raw prawns are Australian-sourced from sustainable fisheries and delivered chilled or frozen to the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers. For busy Gold Coast parents a bag of green prawns in the freezer is the 15-minute weeknight rescue — thaw overnight, toss with garlic and lemon, grill, done. For students meal-prepping on a budget, a kilo of green prawns is often the cheapest quality protein on the shelf.

Storage

Keep frozen at –18°C until the day of use. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never in warm water or on the bench. Once thawed, cook within 24 hours.

Serving

Season simply with olive oil, garlic, chilli and lemon. Grill 2–3 minutes per side over high heat until the shell turns bright red and the flesh is opaque.

What is the best way to thaw raw prawns?

Transfer the prawns from freezer to fridge the night before cooking. Slow thawing keeps the flesh firm and prevents water-logging.

Do I need to devein green prawns?

For larger prawns (U10–U20) we recommend deveining with a sharp knife along the back. Smaller prawns can be cooked and peeled at the table.

Are green prawns wild-caught or farmed?

Both are stocked. Wild-caught Banana and Tiger prawns come from Queensland and NT fisheries; farmed Tiger prawns are sourced from Australian aquaculture farms.

Can I order raw prawns in bulk for Christmas?

Yes — pre-order at least 7 days before Christmas Day. We deliver across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers up to December 24.

What is the fastest weeknight dinner with green prawns?

Thaw overnight in the fridge, then toss with olive oil, crushed garlic, chilli flakes, lemon juice and sea salt. Grill 2 minutes each side and serve over pasta, rice or a Greek salad. On the table in 15 minutes, start to finish.

How long do raw prawns keep in the freezer?

Snap-frozen-at-sea green prawns hold quality for up to 6 months at –18°C. A kilo bag in the freezer is ready when you are — ideal for households who want a reliable protein on standby without daily shops.

Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?

Yes — we deliver fresh seafood across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Order before 2pm the day prior to delivery.

How is the seafood packed for delivery?

All orders are packed in insulated cooler bags with frozen gel packs. Chilled items travel at 0–4°C; frozen items arrive at –18°C or colder.

Can I pickup my order instead of delivery?

Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and collect from our Gold Coast facility during business hours.

Are your seafood products Australian?

Wherever possible, yes. Every product clearly labels its country of origin. We prioritise Australian-sourced seafood from Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian fisheries.
