About our prawns (cooked)

Cooked prawns are the fastest way to build an impressive seafood spread. Tasman Star cooks our prawns on the day of harvest using a traditional sea-water brine that locks in the natural sweetness. You get the classic pink-and-white stripes, firm snap when you peel and a clean ocean finish — no rubbery texture, no over-salting. We stock Australian Tiger prawns, Banana prawns and Eastern King prawns in multiple sizes so you can scale from a casual family lunch to a full Christmas platter. All cooked prawns are shipped chilled and ready to peel; just rinse, arrange on ice and serve. Cooked prawns are also the quiet hero of meal-prep — a 1kg box peels out into three or four high-protein weekday lunches, which is why students at Bond University in Robina and Griffith University in Southport keep coming back for the kilo bags.

Storage

Keep refrigerated at 0–4°C and eat within 3 days of delivery. Do not refreeze thawed cooked prawns — the texture will degrade.

Serving

Allow 250–350g head-on prawns per person as an entrée. Serve with seafood sauce, lemon, brown bread and butter, or a light Asian-style nam jim dressing.

Frequently asked questions

Are cooked prawns ready to eat?

Yes — they are fully cooked and simply need rinsing. Peel, devein and serve chilled or at room temperature.

What size prawns should I order?

U10/U12 are banquet-size (10–12 prawns per kg); U16/U20 suit shared platters; smaller grades work best for prawn cocktails.

Can cooked prawns be frozen?

They can, but texture suffers. We recommend buying only what you need for the week and eating within 3 days.

Are your prawns Australian?

Yes — all our cooked prawns are sourced from Australian fisheries in Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory.

Are cooked prawns good for student meal-prep?

Yes. A 1kg box of head-on cooked prawns peels down to roughly 400–500g of meat — enough for three to four high-protein lunches. Build rice bowls, salads or wraps for the week and the cost per meal consistently beats a campus café.

How many cooked prawns do I need for a 10-person BBQ?

As part of a mixed BBQ menu, allow 300g head-on prawns per adult. If prawns are the star of the table, plan on 500g per adult. For 10 guests, that is 3kg (mixed menu) to 5kg (prawn-led spread).

Are cooked prawns low-carb and diabetes-friendly?

Cooked prawns are high in lean protein, low in carbohydrates and low in saturated fat — a strong fit for low-carb, Mediterranean and diabetes-aware eating. Pair with salad leaves, avocado and a squeeze of lemon for a balanced light meal.

Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?

Yes — we deliver fresh seafood across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Order before 2pm the day prior to delivery.

How is the seafood packed for delivery?

All orders are packed in insulated cooler bags with frozen gel packs. Chilled items travel at 0–4°C; frozen items arrive at –18°C or colder.

Can I pickup my order instead of delivery?

Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and collect from our Gold Coast facility during business hours.

Are your seafood products Australian?

Wherever possible, yes. Every product clearly labels its country of origin. We prioritise Australian-sourced seafood from Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian fisheries.
