Planning a Gold Coast Office Seafood Christmas Lunch

Cooked prawns are one option when planning a shared seafood lunch.

An office seafood Christmas lunch needs more than a headcount. Before ordering, nominate someone to receive the food, check the fridge space and decide when everyone will eat. Those practical details determine whether a do-it-yourself lunch suits the workplace.

This guide concerns buying seafood for your own gathering. It does not advertise a staffed catering service or a confirmed Christmas package.

Give one person ownership of the order

Use a single shared list with the date, venue, number of diners and who is collecting or receiving the food. Record the final order separately from ideas people are still suggesting.

Ask attendees about dietary requirements before choosing the menu. Seafood is not suitable for everyone, so arrange an appropriate alternative and consider how it will be prepared and served. Check product labels and discuss specific ingredient questions with the supplier; a shared platter cannot be assumed free from cross-contact.

Measure the fridge space

An office fridge already full of lunches and milk may not fit several platters. Check the dimensions of the containers and available shelves rather than estimating from photographs.

If you cannot keep the food safely chilled until serving, change the arrangement. A shorter guest list, a different venue or a professionally managed food service may be more appropriate than trying to improvise storage.

For temperature handling, refer to FSANZ’s guidance and our seafood cooler guide.

Make a serving plan

Choose a defined lunch period rather than leaving seafood out through an afternoon of meetings. Put out manageable amounts, keep reserves chilled and use clean serving utensils.

Think about the actual meal format. Shell-on prawns mean peeling, extra waste containers and hand cleaning. Prepared portions may be easier in a meeting room, but ask about available products rather than assuming a custom service.

Bread, salad and drinks also need an owner. Otherwise the seafood arrives to a table with no plates or cutlery.

Ask the right questions before paying

  • Is the selected product raw, cooked or ready to serve?
  • What quantity and packaging suit the confirmed diners?
  • What collection or delivery dates are actually available?
  • Are any building-access details needed?
  • What storage and use-by advice applies to the order?

Christmas trading hours, cutoffs and special offers must be confirmed for the current season. Do not treat a previous year’s deadline as current.

Keep the follow-through simple

Set a final headcount date internally, assign a receiver and plan the cleanup before the gathering. A clear handover matters if the organiser is called into a meeting.

Use Tasman Star’s Christmas ordering guide alongside the current shop, then contact the team for the details that need confirmation. The seafood portion guide can help you prepare questions, but the final order should reflect your menu and product choices.
