About our frozen traded
Frozen seafood is not second-best — when frozen at sea, the quality rivals (and sometimes exceeds) fresh. Tasman Star stocks a curated range of frozen seafood for customers who want pantry depth, bulk-buy value, or species that are only caught in specific seasons. Highlights include IQF (individually quick-frozen) prawns, snap-frozen sashimi-grade tuna loins, frozen barramundi fillets, New Zealand green-lipped mussels, Patagonian scallops and whole baby octopus. All frozen lines are cold-chain managed from vessel to your door. Perfect for stocking the freezer, large-scale entertaining or buying ahead for Christmas and Easter. Working parents in Robina, Varsity Lakes and Burleigh Heads use our IQF prawns and frozen fillets as weeknight insurance — 8 minutes from freezer to plate — while Bond Uni and Griffith Uni students split bulk-buy bags for the semester. For Christmas and Easter, Gold Coast hosts pre-book 5–10 kg freezer orders 2 weeks out to lock in premium lines before they sell out.
Storage
Keep at –18°C or colder. Most frozen seafood holds quality for 6 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never on the bench — and use within 24 hours of thawing.
Serving
Cook most frozen seafood from thawed (not frozen). Exceptions: prawns and some shellfish can go straight from freezer to pan for quick stir-fries.
Frequently asked questions
Is frozen seafood lower quality than fresh?
Not if handled correctly. Snap-frozen at sea, product locks in peak freshness. For out-of-season species, frozen is often superior to "fresh" alternatives.
Does your frozen seafood contain added water or preservatives?
We stock glaze-free lines where possible. Any added-water product is clearly labelled with the net weight after thawing.
What is IQF?
Individually Quick Frozen — each piece is frozen separately so you can take out just what you need without thawing the whole bag.
Can I mix frozen and fresh in one order?
Yes. We pack frozen items separately with ice packs or dry ice for longer routes.
How far ahead should I stock the freezer for Christmas or Easter?
Pre-order your freezer stock 10–14 days before Christmas and 5–7 days before Easter. Premium lines — green prawns, bug tails, whole snapper, sashimi-grade tuna loins — sell out fastest in the final 5 days before each holiday. A typical Gold Coast family freezer-stock for Christmas is 2 kg IQF prawns, 1 kg bug tails, 2 whole fish and 1 kg fish fillets, which covers Christmas Eve, Christmas lunch and Boxing Day. For Easter long weekend in Burleigh, Palm Beach or Tweed Heads, 1.5 kg green prawns plus 1 kg barramundi fillets feeds a family of 4 across three meals.
Is bulk-buy frozen seafood good value for uni students?
Yes — freezer stock is one of the cheapest ways to eat well as a Bond Uni or Griffith Uni student. A 1 kg bag of IQF prawns makes 6–8 meals, a 1 kg bag of frozen barramundi fillets makes 5 meals, and you only thaw what you need because every piece is individually frozen. House-shares on the Gold Coast often split a single freezer order — a 2 kg prawns + 1 kg fillets + 500 g squid bundle divides cleanly 4 ways for a month of protein.
Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?
Yes — we deliver fresh seafood across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Order before 2pm the day prior to delivery.
How is the seafood packed for delivery?
All orders are packed in insulated cooler bags with frozen gel packs. Chilled items travel at 0–4°C; frozen items arrive at –18°C or colder.
Can I pickup my order instead of delivery?
Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and collect from our Gold Coast facility during business hours.
Are your seafood products Australian?
Wherever possible, yes. Every product clearly labels its country of origin. We prioritise Australian-sourced seafood from Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian fisheries.
